Forest School is a Scandinavian approach to Early Years Education. It is held outdoors throughout the year in all weathers and encourages repeated and regular contact with the natural world. It positively encourages child led activities whilst providing support for learning.
Children enjoy songs and story sessions and are encouraged to explore different crafts, create dens and use their imagination. They may have opportunities to use tools, take part in food preparation and explore the range of wildlife in the natural environment.
Research suggests that the Forest School approach has huge benefits for children's emotional and social well being and also contributes to academic achievement.
